In this  sculptural installation, I made a large inflated bottle of Hennessy, filled with smoke by attaching it to the smoke machine. The bottle of Hennessy stands as a representation of misused substance (alcohol) which a lot of people use as an escape tool from responsibilities. This certain brand also is regarded as a sign of monetary success and highly praised in the mainstream culture. Yet it stands as an ironic connotation as well for it is only regarded as so in the lower income communities. The ambiguity of represented through the smoke not only stand as a notion of blindness from the usage of various substances, but also create a translucent backdrop for a video projection within the bottle as well. The bottle is filled with smokes of nostalgia and fading memories of childhood innocence. Even with chintzy liquor blocking out the urgency of one’s confrontation with discomforting adulthood, one holds dear to the underlying longing of the days when nothing was of concern. As young adults enter their twenties, they are forced to conform with the fact that they are no longer a child and is meant to follow through with the streams of responsibilities. Maturity is expected as one reached certain point in life, yet is not met naturally. Maturity in mind must correspond with one’s actions and reactions towards responsibilities of adulthood.  A lot of the new comers to adulthood turn away from the responsibilities of reality and blind themselves through the use of various substances. I hope to address the social connotation behind certain lifestyles portrayed through mainstream media and the negative fallouts resulting as a consequence. Moreover, to address the psychological lethargic memories that many experience whether one recognizes or ignores it.
